Grandparents Apart Self Help Group Scotland
The Scottish Executive in consultation
with other charities including Grandparents Apart Self Help Group
Scotland have created the
Parenting
Agreement and Charter for
Grandchildren
Parenting Agreement.
The Parenting Agreement is a
non-legislative document designed to ensure children are the first
parent’s consideration in the event of a family separation.
To create more awareness of the harmful effects breaking up can be
for children and what can be arranged to avoid most of these
problems.
Charter for Grandchildren.
Grandparents in the past have had their grandchildren taken from them and placed in care because they have no legal rights under the children’s act of 1989 and Scottish Children’s Act 1995. They were legally helpless and told “you are irrelevant” if asking about their grandchildren who perhaps have been abused or taken into care.
The Charter for Grandchildren ensures that the authorities must look at the role grandparents can play in children’s lives. To ensure that the best care and home environment is maintained for children when families are in trouble, the onus being on the Social Worker to make sure this happens.
Monitoring
Since we have been very involved in the
creation of both the Parenting Agreement and Charter for
Grandchildren, we wish to monitor how they are working in practice.
Please help by directing any comments or complaints on the Social
Services and the Law Courts to our special email address
1. How children suffer in family arguments.
2. How the Social services treat you and handle cases.
3. How courts treat you (if you attend them)
4. Problems regarding children.
Thank you
